Like any instrument, it's not too hard to learn to just get by, bu it can be difficult to learn to play well.
For rock bass, it's easy to learn to just get by, since what is more important is the rhythm, just stick to root-fifth, with an occasional fourth thrown in for giggles.
To learn the harder stuff, it takes time, and effort, as well as a good knowledge of scales, chords and modes. BUT under everything, on the bass, rhythm is important.

in the same way than the guitar or very other music instrument, the bass in hard/easy to learn to play.
obviusly, if you want to play bass very well take a lot of time and many hours to study, if you only want to play radio hits and make some cover is more easy
play bass or many other instrument it´s not only know when is the C key, you most to know music theory, composition, orchestrey and a lot of topics for be a real musician

The toughest factor (a minimum of for me) was once studying the bass clef. If your coming over from Treble like I did, it will supply you plenty of complications. I say that cuz you acknowledged that you just did play an software at a few factor. Other than that, I did not believe it was once too difficult to decide upon up. Just recall to have amusing with it.
