A lot of my clothes have been ruined due to these rust stains. My washing machine has some rusted spots. Is there any kind of spray paint that will work to cover these rust spots?

a couple of thin coats of KBS RustSeal with do it. This paint loves rust, is nonporous and is moisture-cured so exposure to wetness/moisture even strengthens it.

You might try Rustolium spray paint. You will need to take a what rust is there off with a steel scourer pad first and clean the area before painting. Make sure it has dried and cured before you use them again.
As far as getting the stains out of your clothes, I would pretreat them with some Spray in Wash before you wash them. If they are white clothes you could use some diluted bleach carefully on it.

Cor-a-Seal. Wire brush the rust as much as you can and paint on according to directions let dry then spray with a good paint. The Cor-a-seal reacts with the rust and creates a primer barrier. Auto part stores sell similar rust inhibitors

You can do a "band-aid" repair and paint it...but odds are it's rusted on the other side of your "washer basket" also. I think your basket needs replaced which can cost alot ....as compared to a newer machine with a plastic or stainless steel basket!

go to a home department store, (home-depot, lowe's, etc.) Ask for spray paint for stoves and frig, this paint can stand harsh work, heat sure should hold up well in washing machine! Good Luck!
