It's hard to say. I feel both are genius. The UK version definitely feels more real, and the humor slowly evolves out of the situations in a more natural manner. It is far more bleak than the US version, and I think this is due to the fact that US audiences don't want to be depressed right now. They want something energetic, something off the wall. The problem with the US version, is that the UK version managed to tell a tightly knit story in 12 episodes and a special, and it all worked great. Because the US version doesn't have this luxury, it is slowly starting to relegate itself into the realm of 'What wacky situation will Michael and Dwight end up in next?'. Regardless, it is still funny as hell. But, for my money, the UK Office is tops.

You know I was upset that they were going to make an american version, usually the us versions just really really suck
but this is an exception, I have to say I actually like the us version a bit better. mostly because the boss is a bit different, he is a bit more likeable and all in all the character is a bit more fleshed out.
So I have to go with the us version.

British, it only ought to be Fawlty Towers. American is problematic, such lots of, soooo reliable. NewsRadio replaced into magnificent, yet I do remember honestly laffing till eventually I peed, somewhat, observing only Shoot Me - the homicide, secret nighttime episode.
