According to dictionary.com, "cloves" are a type of evergreen trees. There buds can be ground up and used as a spice.

When I tried "red cloves", I was redirected to "red clover', with is a red flower often used as a cover crop in North America. A typo, perhaps?

Not sure if either of those help, but it was worth a shot.
