Yes, I believe it does help you remember better!

When you read something and then fall asleep, your brain has time to properly process the information and make sense of what you read. Then, it can be properly stored in your memory for future use.

That's one reason why we dream. Dreams help us process the events that have happened throughout the day or help us solve problems that have been on our mind.

I really believe that reading before going to sleep is beneficial.

It used to work for me when I was in college. I would read or look over my notes or study for a test right before I went to bed. And it did seem to help with my retention.
Of course you need to study and read at other times as well, not just try to cram it in at the last minute.

Reading before bed makes me tired and then I cannot remember anything I've read because my eyes close. No joke.
