I was just on a question that defended dogs when they attack defenceless children, was asked long time ago.
would you leave it to the authorities or take it into your own hands?
I dont think i could leave it, i would just imagine the pain my baby would have gone through and how scared he would have been and any reasoning would have totaly gone from my head..
I know the parents are partialy to blame, but lets just take them out of it.

I can't understand anyone who would possibly consider defending an animal over a child! The animal needs to be shot basically and the freaks who rabbit on about "it wasn't the animals fault", well I would like to hear their views after their child was killed or maimed by a dog.
I am 110% with you, the child comes before ANY animal. Regardless of the circumstances.
Anyone who thinks different needs help, psychiatric help.

as a parent of a 4 1/2 and 2yr old ... If I were at the scene, I would destroy the animals with my bare hands if necessary (NOTHING & NO-ONE messes with my little guys). If I were not at the scene, I would ensure they were destroyed (by whatever means). THEN, the owners. Over and above the guilt they would/should live with, I'm afraid this is where the bulk of the blame rests. Whilst I concede unfortunate accidents happen, I am not aware of attacks where dogs are under control (eg on a leash). The bulk of attacks are from breeds of dogs which were NEVER intended to be pets and which are not under strict supervision. Rottweilers, pit bulls, dobermans etc. These dogs were originally bred for very specific purposes (hunting etc) and not for cute domestic petting! The owners of these breeds of animals should bear the same responsibility as carrying a loaded weapon - strict training, stricter licensing and stricter penalities. Over the years, whilst running or cycling I have had close encounters with a Doberman, a Rottweiler and an Alsatian. All roaming free, all untrained. I was lucky.

Please don't blacklist me, but...
In today's nanny state I would be a bit relieved that there is "something" out there that is allowed to discipline children. I'm sorry, but kids have gone bad since the right to punish them has gone away. The threat of a random dog-attack is probably the last thing we have to keep them in line.
I love kids, I used to be one! And as I recall, pain is the only barrier they don't want to break!
Obviously random dog attacks from Pikey owners should be punished by having the dogs put to death.
The point is, when I was at school the cane was commonly used. As a result of that I only dish out pain when it is suitable, and I expect the same in return. Nothing wrong with a dog protecting his grounds, providing there is signage to indicate his presence, but Pikey dogs need to be taken off the streets.

i'd be very careful about what you coach him. Telling him that pit bulls are those to pay attention of yet not caution of the hazards of, say, a Lab or maybe some thing as inherently pleasant as a Collie, could coach him that see you later because it is not a pittie, it is tremendous. which isn't authentic in any respect. Plus, feeding into that "ALL PIT BULLS ARE EVIL." stereotype is a foul theory, besides. :-) because the first poster suggested, education him now to not make eye contact with ANY unusual canine is basic, observed through remaining upright yet nonconfrontational. somewhat slouched shoulders, protecting the rib cage/abdomen with fingers are 2 of the perfect events...the slouched shoulders and prevented eyes are the fastest techniques to assert, "i'm submissive, i'm not confronting you, do not confront me." to a canine. i does not supply him Mace...what if he damage himself with it extremely? Umbrellas would nicely be a competent deterrent. maximum canine will run from the sight of a all of surprising opened umbrella. If he do not have time for that, it is going to artwork like a stick with hit the animal if the different concepts of averting do not artwork. really, it comes right down to this. i love animals. i'd not in any respect want to damage a canine. yet when a canine were coming after me, it is recreation on and that i will do in spite of had to guard myself, in spite of if which means beating the animal or breaking its jaw. and absolutely everyone else has that proper to boot, if the canine isn't securely interior a fence or backyard.

As soon as a dog attacks it has to be destroyed, especially if it is a child it has attacked. I heard a good tip once if a dog attacks someone or it's attacking your dog then pepper in it's face will make it stop. I don't know if I could physically attack an animal even if it has bit someone I love. Most dogs don't just bite for no reason and I don't think I could look in to it's eyes and hurt it. But I would insist it was destroyed.

One thing I'd do is find out what the kid did to provoke the dog, because chances are good that the child did something. Sorry, but I've seen too many animal abuse cases involving kids.
