I don't know if I should try to patent the idea, or if I should approach a company that produces pet products to see if they are interested. But then wouldn't they just steal my idea? How do I study the market to see if it would sell? Where do I start?

First start out by trying to sell it to pet stores if it is a product. People are always going to be out to steal others ideas however you should patent it first to make sure that you are protected and then start to sell the product because this way it is safe. Good luck.

You can't patent an idea. If you have a working model of a product, then you can patent it if there's not already a patent on something very similar.

If you approach a company with your idea without a patent on the product, you need to have them sign a non-disclosure statement first.

Good luck.

Start on a business plan. You need to examine whether or not it is a viable business option.
