First pick a subspeciality that really interests you, do a little background reading on the subject, ask the What Ifs? Then once you have it narrowed down- to say Biotechnology, you could run an electrophoresis gel of DNA, you could show how Astronomy is redefigning planets, etc.Pick something that is doable- not something so far out of your scope, time, and budget that you can't get it done on time.

Keep it Simple! Elegance came in the form of very elemental observations- Kepler, Newton, Darwin, Watson & Crick, and numerous other great minds.

Also look at Science, Nature, Scientific American, but I recommend Discover magazine- good ideas.

Illustrate your passion for science and the project will talk for itself!

Good luck
