Effective control of cholesterol include:
Artichoke
Black Tea
Garlic
Grapefruit Pectin
Guggul
Lecithin
Plant Sterols
Policosinol
Red Yeast Rice
The efficacy of these is unproven but like so many non AMA prescribed drugs, that is normal. It doesn't mean they don't work, it really means they don't do clinical trials.
Check your foods again; make sure there is nothing you are eating that could contribute to high cholesterol. Do you exercise? That is also an effective way to limit cholesterol.
Anyway, good luck with this. Lipid lowering drugs such as Lipitor are available and may have both positive (helping reduce plaque buildup in blood vessels) and negative (liver damage) aspects. So, my advice, is to try some of these alternative dietary supplements, monitor your lipid level monthly, exercise and see what happens!

I know one in particular that is really good. Avocados. From what I have read, there is Good cholesterol and Bad. What the avocado has is the Good kind. SO when you eat it, it goes into your blood system and acts like a sort of magnet that the bad cholesterol attaches itself to. This is then flushed out of your system. When selecting your avocados, make sure they are nice and ripe, yet firm.. sort of how you like to eat your pears. I love to put mine in the fridge and have it with any meal. Some like to chill it, and cut it in half, sprinkle some vinaigrette... grab a spoon and you are good to go. I also heard that almonds are good but not the salted ones. The natural ones you can buy at the bulk food stores. Good snack and it lowers your bad cholesterol. May our Lord preserve you brother... spirit, soul and body unto His return. ( 1 Thess 5:23) .... oh.. and remember to exercise:) Love ya in Christ Ur sis sandy

Have you tried lecithin? Omega-3 fatty acids? Garlic? Sytrinol?
Foods that have shown beneficial effects on lowering cholesterol include avocados, cocoa butter, Brewer's yeast, royal jelly, shiitake mushrooms, saffron, turmeric, honey, shellfish, alfalfa sprouts . Don't depend on suppements alone to help lower it.
Diets rich in legumes, including peanuts, are being used to lower cholesterol levels and soy protein has been shown in some studies to be able to lower total cholesterol levels by 30% and to lower LDL, or "bad" cholesterol, levels by as much as 35-40%. Nuts and seeds, particularly almonds and walnuts, are also quite useful in fighting against heart disease by lowering cholesterol through their fiber, monounsaturated oil, and essential fatty acid content. Hazelnuts have an exceptional concentration of copper, a key component in the intracellular form of an important antioxidant enzyme called superoxide dismutase, which disarms free radicals that would otherwise damage cholesterol and other lipids. Ground flax seed lowers two cholesterol-carrying molecules, apolipoprotein A-1 and apolipoprotein B.

Your liver is making cholesterol no matter what foods you eat. This is a genetic condition and you need to shut it off. If you have tried the fiber in the diet, or the niacin and it did not affect your levels you need real help. Homeopathy will do nothing, you need to turn your liver off, that is what lipator and other drugs do.

Eat more vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes. These wonders of nature may be one of the most powerful strategies in fighting heart disease.
Choose fat calories wisely. Keep these goals in mind: Limit total fat grams; Eat a bare minimum of saturated fats and trans-fatty acids (for example, fats found in butter, salad dressing, sweets and desserts); When you use added fat, use fats high in monounsaturated fats (for example, fats found in olive and peanut oil).
Eat a variety -- and just the right amount -- of protein foods. Commonly eaten protein foods (meat, dairy products) are among the main culprits in increasing heart disease risk. Reduce this nutritional risk factor by balancing animal, fish and vegetable sources of protein.
Limit cholesterol consumption. Dietary cholesterol can raise blood cholesterol levels, especially in high-risk people. Limiting dietary cholesterol has an added bonus: You'll also cut out saturated fat, as cholesterol and saturated fat are usually found in the same foods. Get energy by eating complex carbohydrates (whole wheat pasta, brown or wild rice, whole-grain breads) and limit simple carbohydrates (regular soft drinks, sugar, sweets). If you have high cholesterol, these simple carbohydrates exacerbate the condition and may increase your risk for heart disease.
Feed your body regularly. Skipping meals often leads to overeating. For some, eating five to six mini-meals may help keep cravings in check, help control blood sugars and regulate metabolism. This approach may not be as effective for those who are tempted to overeat every time they are exposed to food. For these individuals, three balanced meals a day may be a better approach.
Other Heart-Healthy Strategies
Reduce salt intake. This will help control your blood pressure.
Exercise. The human body was meant to be active. Exercise strengthens the heart muscle, improves blood flow, reduces high blood pressure, raises HDL cholesterol ("good" cholesterol), and helps control blood sugars and body weight.
Hydrate. Water is vital to life. Staying hydrated makes you feel energetic and eat less. Drink 32 to 64 ounces (one to two liters) of water daily (unless you are fluid restricted).
Enjoy every bite. Your motto should be dietary enhancement, not deprivation. When you enjoy what you eat, you feel more positive about life, which helps you feel better and less likely to overindulge.
