I think that we westerners need to take a look at how China with such a large population can feed itself. We here in the USA and other parts have problems with a much smaller population.

China has far less population than one third of the world.
China has about 1.4 billion, the world over 6 billion, that's around one fifth.

lots of rice! the population is huge and feeding the population is hard, so many families grow some of their own food, but the govt also has control over vast areas of farmland, though much is dedicated to families and the remainder to the rest of the people who live in cities.

I don't think the bulk of the population in china eat especially well, at least not in a way anyone else should aspire to.
