Yes. I went to the Superman Museum in Metropolis, Illinois last month and took a picture of the Superman suit from the old movie serials starring Kirk Alyn. The red boots are actually thick socks.

No...Superman does not wear socks; he wears boots much like the wrestlers do. However, Clark Kent does.
