yes you do have to pull the the steering wheel. what would be better is to have a lock smith come out and create a key for the car. It's quick and often cheap. They put a blank in the car with graphite and press the key aginst the tumblers then they can hand cut a new key for you. faster then tearing the car apart but not as cheap. Most dealers will only keep the codes for the keys for 10 years. your car may be alittle to old to have the dealer cut one from you. Not to mention you have to present to them the registation and the vin to prove you own the car. (this keeps others from writing down your vin and having a key made.)

I don't know about a Chrysler Lebaron but I did have to take the steering wheel off in my Camaro to do the ignition. I had to pull out the airbag, then the steering wheel, and I had to unhook a bunch of electrical. It was a challenge and did require special tools but it can be done in the driveway. You'll have to find a steering wheel tool that helps you pull them off. Plus some clip tools. and a few others. Good luck. I hope this helps.
Also I have had keys made specially for locks. Maybe you could do that. I don't know about ignitions though. I just had keys made for the toolbox in the back of my pickup. But you could call a locksmith and see if they could help you. Good luck.

If car has a airbag, I cant help you, if not ? Here we go;
first, remove cover in centre of steering wheel with a Phillips screwdriver from dash to back of column or it pops out, then disconnect horn wires, remove nut holding steering wheel using 3/8 ratchet and 6'' extension with the large spark-plug socket, next, if you lucky the steering wheel will just pull off with a good tug, if not you need a puller for the steering wheel. once wheel is removed, unscrew signal stat with Philips s/d. being careful with the wires, pull the stat away from the inner casing. behind the stat is a 1/4 or a 5/16 bolt head or a Philips screw near the back of the ignition casing, remove that. ignition cylinder will pop out with a few wiggles and a pulling motion. Now you can take the lock mechanism to a dealer or a locksmith and have a key made. takes about 2 hrs plus replacement. ( 4 hrs total )

If you want to save time, take a door lock off one of the doors and take it in to a locksmith. He can recreate your original key for about $20 to $35 in his shop, may be less. takes about ( one hr total ) to remove and replace lock in door,
