Ignorance is the lack of knowledge, stupidity is the inability to comprehend or use knowledge. Even the smartest person can be ignorant, they just need to be educated. No amount of education can correct stupidity, you can't put sense into the brain of a fool.

Stupidity comes from being uninformed on a subject that is so well-known that you should have the knowledge, or remaining uninformed when there are easy ways to remedy that. Therefore, "You don't know that fish live underwater? You're so stupid!" or "He doesn't know how to fix a tire; he's so stupid.".
Ignorance, on the other hand, is being uninformed about a subject of which it is understandable that you might not have known about, or having no knowledge of a subject and no way to remedy it. Hence "Well, I can see how you wouldn't know that mudfish can actually live out of water. I used to be ignorant about that, too." or "She grew up in Amish country and is completely ignorant about tire repair.".
Those are the differences, I think. 'Stupid' is often also used to refer to people who do not think before they speak, or do irrational things.

I agree they are very different yet the do have some similarities. Stupidity is just having no brains and ignorance is just plain oldnot thinking right. It is also just not taking time to think things thru. Or making the wrong choices when you know what is right.

The difference is that ignorant people can often learn what to do or not to do; stupid people know but don't care.
