Would it not be better to be his friend? Just love him as a friend and believe that one day you will fall in love again and have your feelings returned.

if friendship is hell it's not friendship. a crush can be broken and friendships remain. i've done it. you can too. if the friendship is important, you'll find a way to get over your ego about unrequited feelings.
