What does the post office do with the letters kids send to Santa Clause?

I think they would just throw them away. What do you think the post office does with all these letters?

I'm sure some of them accidently get thrown out, but alot of post offices do something special, l like designate someone to answer the letters, or an operation like Operation Letters to Santa (see link below). Luckily the Chrismas spirit isn't lost, even on busy postal workers.

I don't know about USA,but in England we have a special department set up every Christmas to deal with all the letters to Santa. Every child gets a reply to their letter. Whether they get what they ask for is up to Santa. We also have volunteers who light up their houses with hundreds of lights and decorations and put special Santa letterboxes outside their houses so that the children can drop their letters in. Don't you just love Christmas!

Well,in the town where I was a letter carrier,I answered all the Santa Claus letters individually.I did this for about fifteen years.
I`ve since retired and someone else does it with a computer.

I think there are groups of people (in some areas) that answer the Santa letters. I assume that's where the letters get sent.

The post office ask for volunteers during that time to be elves to help and read the letter. No they do not throw them out they try to read all of them and call certain agencys to see if they can help.

I use to be an elf helper until I got really sick and couldn't do it anymore.

i don't think the post office gets them. like if the parents or teachers get them, why would they take them to the post office..... and why would they send them when they know santa is not REAL.
