Using the y-intercept form (y=mx+b) is the easiest way to accomplish this.

METHOD #1
1) Move your terms around to get your equation into y-intercept form. Start by subtracting x from both sides.

x-2y=4 ---> -2y = -x + 4

2) Multiply both sides by -1/2

-2y = -x+4 ---> y = 1/2 x - 2

3) When in y-intercept form, extracting the data you need is easy.

1/2 is the slope (1 rise / 2 run)
-2 is the y-intercept (the line will cross the y-axis at -2)

METHOD #2
More simply, you can plug zero into either x or y to get your answer. So...

Assume x = 0, find the value of y (y-intercept) or (0, ??)

0 - 2y = 4
-2y = 4
y = -2, therefore the y-intercept is -2.

Assume y = 0, find the value of x (x-intercept) or (??, 0)

x - 0 = 4
x = 4, therefore the x-intercept is 4

The basic equation of a line is y = mx + b

M is the slope of the line, and B is the y-intercept. X and Y are the coordinates of the point. A y-intercept is where the line intersects with the y-axis.

So if you can get your equation into the format of y = mx + b just look for what number is in place of the b and you have your answer.

I'd help you by solving it but sometimes it's best to figure it out by doing it yourself. Good luck!

Intercepts are where a line crosses either the x axis or the y axis when it is graphed.

The easiest way to find them is to make x = 0 and solve for y (which would be the y-intercept).

make y = 0 and solve or x to find the x-intercept.

Isolate y like so:

x-2y=4
-2y=-x+4
y=1/2x-2

The slope (M) is 1/2 and the y-intercept (B) is -2

First, you subtract X so you get -2y= -x+4

4 is the Y- Intercept.
