It needs to have some salt added but I don't know how much...less than a saltwater tank!

Brackish water measures 1.012 on a salinity tester. Saltwater is 1.025 and fresh is 1.000.

Using sea salt from the store, about two teaspoons of salt per gallon of water in the tank should produce brackish water very close to 1.012.

If you are converting the fish from fresh water, do it very slowly. I suggest a half teaspoon of salt per gallon every 2 days until you reach the two teaspoon amount or the 1.012 reading. A salinity tester is cheap, you can get one for about $5-7. A good thing to have if you plan to keep brackish fish.

Also, remember that salt does not evaporate when water does. So only add salt when you do water changes, not when you add water to make up for evaporation.

Good luck!

The neat thing for brackish water fish...is that you can convert them either way! They can be adjusted to live in fresh water or saltwater!!! I just finished converted some mollies to a full salt water tank.

The answer is to add about 10% salt to your fresh water tank each day until you get your salinity to the proper level.

The fish will do fine...make sure that you have a fish that is a brackiish water fish. You could not do this to a goldfish!

It depends on the fish. Brackish is simply salt water, but less water than for a specifically salt water fish. Talk to the pet store where you got your fish, or find a site you trust online that lists how much salt to water is needed in the tank you are keeping your fish. Good luck!
