What am I? I believe in pro-choice, the death penalty, helping people get on their feet then they need to take care of themselves, stopping illegal immigration (do it the right way), I care about the environment, I think people who commit crimes against children should be stoned to death (harsh?), I don't care if you're gay, I believe in God etc.

I know that some of these things sound conflicting but I need some advice. What am I when it comes to my beliefs with the government? I know this question sounds crazy but if you have any input, please help me out!!

Polaris,

Is this the additional details section? Pardon my ignorance. If so, let me know.

Polaris,

I know it sounds conflicting and I am having problems with that. I am pro-choice, meaning you should have a choice. I believe in it because many of these children are unwanted and live their lives as such. People will also go back to the ways before it became legal and die because they don't have that choice. I think either way, it is a hard decision. You will have to live with it for the rest of your life. I also don't think it should be used as a method of birth control. Not everyone who has sex understands the consequences. Does a 14 year old really think she will become pregnant?

As for God, I know He doesn't like abortion, but in the end, you will be the one facing him for judgement. Noone else has that right.

I think it is totally different once you have given birth to a baby that is alive and in the world. Someone who harms that child in any way should be punished accordingly. In my mind, they should be stoned.

I know, it's conflicting...

Polaris,

As for the sorrow of the fetus. Yes, I feel sorrow but for many, I feel that it is better then living a life of I was wanted and who will take care of me. There are so many kids in foster care and get shuffled around, it's sad. Either way, it's sad.

Thanks

Don't be either. Be an individual. As I've said before and received the best answer on, don't choose either. They are both corrupt ideologies for the rich and the priveleged. Neither of them give a damn about you after you vote for them.

Just don't get sucked into what one side says the other side believes in, you in the middle, you what we call a independent thinker, don't pick sides by your beliefs, wont work, and I will tell you why, there are so many uneducated people who tell you the other party stands for what ever, for example, Abortions, there are many misinformed people who say Republicans are pro life and Democrats are pro choice, so untrue It was a Republican Supreme court judge who wrote the opinion for roe vs wade, there was also a Republican Chief of the Supreme court at the time and Mrs Bush has even said on the Today show that she doesn't think Roe VS Wade should be over turned, there is so much gray area, they say Republicans are for gun rights and Democrats are for taking away guns, but Bush says we shouldn't have assault rifles ( a traditional Democratic belief).., Most democrats believe in your helping people get on there feet (extreme left want more) Republicans more believe private charities should help you, not the government. Your just like most of us, in the middle or else every election would be the same, go by the person not the party

Birdsnake did you hear this, a Republican wrote the case Roe VS Wade in favor of Abortions, also the chief justice at the time was a republican, ,President Bushes wife said on network TV that she doesn't think abortions should be banned and said she feels her husband feels the same way, do some research will you

You would be closer to a Democrat.

Pro-Choice is Democrat
Death Penalty is pretty bipartisan but more Republican
The helping people get on their feet thing is Democrat (consider Clinton's welfare reforms)
Immigration is bipartisan, although Republicans try to claim it, but don't actually do anything to solve the problem
Environment is wayyy Democrat
The crimes against children is pretty bipartisan
Indifference to homosexuality is Democrat
Both parties believe in a god

Although a list of how you view issues helps, a better way to look at the situation would be to take your top 5 priorities, and look at where the parties stand on those issues. Also, look at the probability that a party is actually going to make a difference in those issues. For instance, neither party is going to make you not believe in God. Neither party is likely to ban the capital punishment until public sentiment turns against it. On the other hand, the Republicans are tightening the ways that you can go about having the choice of abortion, and environmental laws have been relaxed under the Bush administration which would likely be reversed under Democratic rule. The current political environment makes it very hard to solve the immigration issue, so neither party is actually going to resolve that one.

So evaluate these things and pick a party (or go independent). Then pick individual candidates that advance your priorities based on the issues.

You say you are pro-choice but you believe crimes committed against children should be punishable by stoning. Question: Isn't the butchering of a helpless child within its mothers womb the ultimate crime committed against a child? You say you believe in God? What do you think God would say about this irony?
Please believe me, I am not judging you. I am just trying to understand how someone who loves children could be pro-abortion. I find it hard to believe that someone can view an aborted fetus and not feel a sense of sorrow, of compassion, of anger that this is allowed to happen.
I would love to hear a response from you using "Additional Details".

Yes, yes. You have it right.

I appreciate your honesty. And I can understand your conflict. But will you do something for me? Mind you, I am not trying to shock you, but I really think you need to see this. Will you please click onto this website and view these unwanted children? Don't these children deserve a chance at life, no matter how hard or difficult it may turn out to be?

Again, I am not trying to offend you or judge you in any way. But can't you feel a sense of sorrow for these little ones?

Cheshiregirl, I thank you for your honesty. You seem like a soul searching for the truth, and I honor that. My hope is that you will always keep your heart available and your mind open. As for me, my heart bleeds for these lost infants. But I wish you well in your search. Thanks for conversing with me. God bless.

Republicans would call you a Democrat because they usually only want to help the rich! Everyone else they hate, especially the neocons who give Republicans a bad name!

You hit exactly what the problem is with labeling people! Many people are like you! I have some views that are thought to be conservative, like the 2ND Amendment!

You vote the candidate who shares most of you beliefs and hope they still share them once in Washington!

Others are perfectly willing to label the other without knowing a damn thing about them!

Democrat.

Democrats (in general) have the following platform:
Pro-choice, environmental issues, Anti-traditional marriage.

The lobbyists of those issues choose to side with Democrats.

The other items you listed like: believe in God, helping people get on their feet, against committing crimes against children are fairly neutral issues.

In general, people usually don't line up 100% with a particular party, but most will LEAN one way or the other.

Sounds like you're somewhere in between, just like MOST of us.

I don't know ANYONE who really believes in ALL of the things that their party stands for...Most of us have the ability to apply brain power and our own personal ethics to the issues we vote on (that's actually what infuriates me most about this stupid two-party system we have!).

Look into some of the other parties that are out there...you might find one that fits your beliefs better than the two you've been looking at. Libertarian, Independent and Green are all viable parties.

If you think killing babies is ok then you lean more toward the democrats. But you do believe people who have abortions (because it is a crime against a child) should be stoned to death, so you have a chance.

You are an independent. Very few people believe in everything their party promotes. We are not robots, we are thinking feeling humans. Be proud to be an independent... it shows you have a brain and use it.
