Put a blue tooth earpiece on your ear so people will think you are talking on the phone. Then if someone gives you a funny look, you can just point to your earpiece.
Don't be afraid to scare people. Go out, and do whatever you would normally do. Anyone who gets scared because someone is talking to themselves is paranoid, and that has nothing to do with you.

Yeah, I'm always puzzled why people say that talking to ourselves (out loud) is a sign of insanity, or that they worry about someone talking to themselves. What a load of nonsense, eh!
Okay, I don't do it in public, but I do talk out loud to myself in the privacy of my own home. And for me it is a sign of sanity. It is me being a friend to myself. And reassuring myself that I'm not alone in this world like I think I am most of the time.

If that is your way of expressing yourself - then so be it. People often find behaviour that is different from their own - well different and abnormal. But what is normal for me and you, may be not be for someone else and vis versa.
If you honestly believe that this is something that needs to be changed, speak to your doctor, see how he/she can help you out - sometimes there is something that lays underneath that may cause this sort of behaviour. That is, if you feel that there is something that needs to be done - remember it's up to you, and people outside in the jungle of a world will always have something to say about people who seem different than them....speak to your doctor - see what happens from there...
good luck!

Dont be silly. Everyone talks to themselves, its just that nobody will admit it! As long as you're aware you're dong it (which obviously you are) I wouldn't worry too much. It's when you start talking to yourself, answering back adn thinking you are having a conversation with a different person that there's a problem! Don't worry about scaring people, they're oonly scared cos they know they do it too lol!

I know expert on it, but I really don't see it to be much different than thinking something, hence 'thinking out loud'. Sometimes it helps me to think.

Stop using your hands free when you are out. People will think you are talking to yourself otherwise! What else do you expect other than people being wary of this person talking to themself.

well, i don't have much to say, but considering that no one else gave you much advice, i might as well join the crowd. if this is really a problem for you, then you really should see a doctor about it. could it be tourette's syndrome?
