A sprained ankle is an injury of the ankle where the bone is not damaged but the soft tissues are (mainly a ligament on the side of the ankle) is called a sprained ankle. This most commonly occurs when you "go over" on your ankle.
If you feel you have a mild-to-moderate ankle sprain, rest is the key to early recovery. Stay off your ankle as much as possible, keep your leg elevated to the level of your chest, and apply ice four times a day, 20 to 30 minutes each time.
When a broken ankle (also known as an ankle fracture) occurs, the injury may be to the end of the tibia (the medial malleolus) or to the fibula (the lateral malleolus), or both. There are many different type of ankle fractures, and attempting to discuss them is the subject of textbooks.
If you break one of the bones in your ankle, you're in for many weeks of discomfort and inconvenience. However, with the right treatment and care, you can expect a full recovery.

Broken bones tend to heal faster and better than sprains which can take several months to even over a year. About it coming back stronger...I don't know that I believe that. Which medical journal did he read that in? I'd like to see it too.
I have a sprained wrist from 13 years ago, and I am constantly reminded of the pain when I forget and use it in a way that the sprain does not agree with.

He's nuts!!! A broken ankle is much more painful and take weeks to heal. A sprained ankle needs to be wrapped in a tensor bandage a be rested for a few days and you're ready to go. Might need ice too. Believe me, sprained is better than broken and that applies to everything.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.
So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.
Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.
A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.
Heal your ankle fully & fast?

I would have to say that a broken ankle is worse than a sprained ankle. Even though a broken ankle takes longer to heal and you have to wear a cast.

Yes, sprains hurt, but broken ankles also take a long time to heal in a cast, which sucks, and broken ankles don't feel all that great either.

Not actually, the big thing with a badly sprained ankle is the recovery time. A fx. ankle can sometimes heal faster.

I don't know about coming back stronger, but I'd always take a break before a sprain. Breaks heal in a couple months and they never really bother you again. Sprains can take longer to heal and may bother you indefinetly

Having sprained my ankle, it is without a doubt the WORST pain I have ever felt. I have been told that a break hurts less
