I'm looking into something that plays only music, a reasonable price, has a good amount of storage and will last a long time. I have a few questions though. What are the cons to a rechargable battery? And what is the difference between a flash memory and hard drive (I think I have those right). I appreciate any help!

I would stay away from the i-pod series because people have a lot of trouble with them, and they will not play songs from a lot of sites. I have bought 4 different brands of players, but the simplest (and smallest) is a 512 Mbyte Creative MU VO player which came free with a subscription to www.emusic.com That web site offers 25 free downloads and guarantees their songs will work on all mp3 players. A wide variety of players is listed by www.tigerdirect.com they are reliable and have a 30-day money back guarantee. A flash memory has no moving parts and is best if you jog or move quickly while listening. A hard drive is a tiny disc drive with moving parts, and some of them "skip" if you jog or move quickly. Players with hard drives are larger than others.

If you're interested in an iPod, then I would suggest either the Shuffle or the Nano. The Shuffle is smaller in size physically and holds less songs than the others. It's $80 and is 1 GB and holds up to 240 songs. The Nano is a bit nicer. It has the 'click wheel' and a color screen. It plays music, can hold pictures and has a few games on it like Solitaire and Brick. It's available in 2, 4, and 8 GB versions. 2 GB holds up to 500 songs; 4 GB holds up to 1,000; 8 GB holds up to 2,000. The price tag starts from $150. The Video iPods can hold up to 20,000 songs but they're more expensive and they play movies and videos, something that you said you weren't interested in. iPods are reliable and are good quality. I have a Nano and it's great. They last a long time as long as you don't drop it or mistreat it in any way. One way to keep them nice is to have a good cover. Screens scratch easily on iPods, so either get a case that covers the screen or get a special cover for the screen. This applies to other MP3s too- make sure that the MP3, especially the screen, is protected.

The con to a rechargable battery is that you'll eventually have to replace it. I'm pretty sure that they just change the battery, not the player, when it comes to iPods but I'm not sure about other MP3s.

If you are seriously interested in the iPods, you should look more into them at www.apple.com. If you order one through there, they'll engrave it for free.

Good luck!

You'll Probaly want a flash mp3 participant if you happen to plan on jogging with it alot, beause Hardrive mp3 gamers have relocating components. however I suppose you will have to examine out Creative Zen Muvos, they arrive in a form of Size choices, and they've a TON of facets, and such a lot of them are underneath a $one hundred. I possess a Creative and I'd advocate to any one that they will have to get one as an alternative of an Ipod. Hope That Helps.
