I was rear ended today. All that my car sufered, from what I could tell, was a small scratch on the back bumper.

My question is, what if anything, might I want to look for/at in the way of "hidden" damage, that could occur from such and accident.

Im not asking because I feel like there is additional damage, I would actually be suprised if there was. Im asking really because the scratch is so minor, I figured if thats all the damage, I wasn't even gonna worry about reporting to thier insurance.

So I just want to find out if there is anywhere in particular I should look at/check for hidden damage.

The bumper cover clips on the sides still hooked pull on the bumper behind the rear tire tight ok loose one side or the other your bumper was sharply pushed in and the ends of the bumper tore. There is styrofoam under the bumper cover that was dammaged in even a minor bump that you do not see. Look closely at the exhaust is it where it used to be? or did the bump knock off exhaust hangers? When in doubt in a small bump get the insurance of the car behind and tell them your insurance agent will contact there insurance company. Becuase it was there fault following to closely or not paying attention. Also it pays to have rent a car coverage on your policy.

It all depends on what kind of car you have. If it has a plastic bumper then check the shock absorbing pad behind it. It just looks like a big chunk of styrofoam. Then I would check your airbag sensors and where the bumper is mounted on. It would be a good idea to check suspension too.
I don't know about where you live but here a few auto body shops will do an estimate for free. They go over the car and tell you how much it will cost to fix. I would go do that if there is somewhere that does it for free because they might find hidden damage. And you usually have to have a few estimates done before the insurance company will fix the car.

I would go see what it's going to cost to fix it, And see if they can find any hidden damage. Then decide if your going to report it.
Well good luck. I hope this helped.
