My best friend has gotten a boyfriend and ever since then she has been choosing him over me and i understand that it is her first serious boyfriend and that he seems like the most important thing in her life right now but they've been going out for 7 months now and shes still been pushing me away. I tried to tell her how I feel I've sent her E-mails, Texts and tried to talk to her on the phone about it but she doesn't seem to want to talk about it. We've been friends since we were 10 and I'll be 18 in december. this boy is tearing us apart and it hurts so much. Can anyone offer some helpful advice to a sensitive situation?

Cherish, you have done all that you can do. The best thing you can now is to begin making new friends. I always tell younger people such as yourself to make as many friends in this life as possible, because you never know what around the corner. Hopefully she will wise up and be the friend to you that she was before. But don't sit around waiting ok. Don't worry your heart will heal.

Friendships do go through different phases. Some of them being the "give space" phase. You should honor yourself and take care of you at this time and honor her as she is finding her way in her journey (first love) at this time. If you both are truly good friends at the heart, you will come back to each other and it will be like nothing has changed. Try not to approach her anymore as she probably would like you to try and understand and just let her be with her guy. Use this time for yourself to make new friends, try new things. Show yourself what a best Friend you can be to yourself.

I think this situation is very common, but your friend is not being very much of a 'friend', she may be thinking she's found "the one" and nothing else matters, even friendships. Since it hurts so much, are you sure you're not actually in love with her yourself? Anyway, life changes and I think you're going to have to move on, maybe find a boyfriend for yourself, good luck.

Give your friend some time to live and learn the true value of friendships. I remember when I got a first serious boyfriend and became very "busy".

Let her know you are her bestfriend and love her and would like to spend some more time with her. Maybe a movie? or perhaps you can double date.

Give her some time if you cherish your friendship.

Well since you tried talking to her, try talking to him. Tell him you want a day just for you two. Tell him how you feel about the situation, maybe he'll understand and back off a bit.

Think first of your own actions, if you two have been best friends four eight years, it stands to reason that she would be gushing to give you all the details...in her down time, are you being supporting friend? Or maybe if you look deep you think of boyfriend as a rival and your Friend is feeling these vibes, causing more tension and avoidance....Mary

As much as it hurts right now, just give her some space...She will realize who her true friend is in time.....Be there for her when this relationship fails, as she is too young to know what she wants right now.....Good luck and bless you honey....
