Well, a hundred years ago, some women were treated as if they were a lesser being... there were slaves in some places... lots of poor people... horrible governments... but I digress.
It seems that with technology, people have become lazier, less polite, more into themselves, and just less nice.
Well, that's just my observation...

Automobiles for the masses. That separated the rituals of courtship from a family's home to other places, thus decreasing parental influence on a young man or woman's choice of a mate.
