one year when we were broke we blew eggs,(poke a hole in each end, and blow the egg out) then we painted the eggs with holiday scenes, they make great ornaments, and we have been ask for more.
you also get to eat the eggs, but when you have blown then they have to be scrambled.

Your friend sounds greedy. You have the right idea of what Christmas is all about. If you have no money perhaps you could give 'help' gifts such as babysitting for a mom who needs a few hours to herself, doing chores for an elderly person, reading to someone who is unable to do so for themself, helping out at a charity etc. There are many 'gifts' that don't cost a thing and are deeply appreciated and mean more than just something that you bought. You sound as if you have a good heart, and I think your offer of prayer is excellent.

I think your friend is wrong. Presents are not a necessity. Food, shelter, and basic clothes are a necessity.
If you're looking for gift ideas that don't cost anything, maybe you could give the gift of time instead. Call (or visit) your friends and let them know that your Christmas gift to them is spending time with them. You could also give the gift of service. Offer to do free babysitting, free house cleaning (or house-sitting if anyone is going out of town for the holidays), and so on.
Gifts don't need to be purchased with money. They can be gifts of the heart. But you might need to let your friends know about your situation if they are expecting you to buy gifts.

I think it's the thought that counts. If you have a little bit of money (maybe 25 bucks total) you can buy some cute christmas tins or plastic bags and make candy (aka fudge, peppermint bark, english toffee etc) This makes a nice gift and people know you put effort into it. Thats what I'm doing this year because I am beyond broke.

There is nothing wrong with that. I think that is one of the greatest gifts you can give people. Send them a card with your inspiration in it. I take that as a great gift. Ideas and homemade things are more precious to me and family pictures. The materialistic things.
If you are having money problems. I don't if you have kids but you can call your local church, salvation army, and toys for tots they'll help. If you need them.
Another idea you can do is a photo them and get a picture frame and decorate it. That's what my sister does every year she doesn't have alot of money but that is may favorite when I get pictures of my nieces.

I think that is a really loving gift and I'm sorry your friend can't appreciate it. Perhaps you could get (or make) a calender for her and write in a different aspect of her life or person in her life that you will pray for each week, month, etc. It may remind her to pray for those people as well...

i think you are a wise and loving person...your gift is far better than anything that you can wrap up with a bow...just being reminded that there are still people like you out there is an early Christmas gift for me...thank you very much...and i'll pray the same prayer for you and yours...i wish you the merriest and most joyous Christmas ever...

If that is all you can give than that is what should be appreciated. Maybe you can get them some inspirational Christmas cards and write your prayer to them in it. Or you could type them an inspirational letter with your thoughts and prayers and print it from your computer. I think that would be nice. Ignore your friend about them needing a present, it is the thought that really does count.

Make something...You could make layered cookie mixes in jars, handpainted ornaments, write them a poem or letter and tell them how much they mean to you...
People have really distorted the meaning of Christmas (remember everyone on "Yahoo Answers", Christmas was when Jesus was born!!)...At the very least, I hope they understand "it's the thought that counts".

I think that is a great gift.
Your "friend" does not sound like much of a friend if you ask me.
If she were she would understand and know that you are giving of your heart rather than a material item.
Tell her you want a car, when she says she cant afford it, tell her that she could pray for you , tell her that would mean more than the car.

i have no money for gifts this year either so i guess i will just cook the best Christmas dinner i can and put my heart into it, if that isn't good enough well i guess they will be disappointed huh? Christmas is about the gift of love and sharing, not money so that is my plan.
