And who states this question? Where did you get the idea that women are so obsessed with their appearances?

As a Confident, self-sufficient female, I can assure you that appearance (superficial looks) matters very little to me -- I value the inner person and the intelligence behind the physical outwards looks.

Why do men always make these sweeping generalizations about women? Oh, wait....

Yes, there are some women who are obsessed with looks, just like there are some men who are. There are also plenty of women who just take a healthy interest in their appearance, or who don't care at all. The fact is, though, that women in this culture are judged on appearance far more than men are. What would be unhealthy for a guy is a completely normal response to a wacked-out, obsessed culture for a woman.

Because women are judged as looks, both on a personal and a professional level. It's nice to feel that you look good. However, while you may spend say, 30 mins each day on clothes, hair etc., that doesn't mean you can't also have a job, love life, family, hobbies and all that good stuff. Appearance and "other concerns" are not mutually exclusive.

Not all women are "obsessed" with their appearance, but most are at least somewhat concerned with it (which is normal).

It is completely possible to care about one's appearance and still have any number of other things in life to be thinking about or concerned about.

A woman doesn't have to be an unmade-up/flannel-shirt-wearing/wild-haired troll to be concerned about any number of issues in the world.

They could be both, actually.
