Depends on which way you look at this. You may think that space travel and exploration is of course just as we can more fully understand our own universe and go on to possibly meet other civilisations.
On the other hand, we have a planet that itself is starving, or at least a large part of it, shouldn't we be more focused on our own planet as far as funds are concerned.

Of course it is valid. By the very nature of time and distance it will always be an expensive issue. Exploration must continue in the same way we explored earth, one day our descendants will travel to other planets as we now travel to other countries. The time may come when we may need to leave earth and find other planets to live on even. What a wonderful and exciting time that will be. Too bad I shall not be around then, I would love to go into space.

At the end of the day, no form of travel is safe. Look how many people died in the early years of heavier than air flight. Thanks to these pioneers who gave up their lives, you can now sit in an aluminium tube, at 35,000 feet, and travel at 550mph across oceans in a single flight.
When you look at it, we have gone from the first Wright Brothers flight ay Kitty Hawk in 1903, to intercontinental travel in the space of a human life time - no other period of history has advanced so quickly.
Space travel is the same - all journeys of discovery start tentativly, and yes, people will lose their lives to reach that goal - but imagine if we only did things that where 'safe' and did not risk life. Where do you think mankind would be then?
I agree with the advancement of space travel, both robotic and manned - only by doing this will we truly understand our place in the universe, and spread out across the solar system, and indeed the stars. . . .

The chances are good that you (and I) wouldn't be typing on these computer keyboards, if it were not for the "Space Race" of the 60s. Why? Because the integrated circuit was developed primarily for saving weight in the electronic equipment used in the space capsules. True, ICs would have come along anyway, but they would not have been developed as rapidly had there been no rush to go to the Moon. Without the Space Race, we'd currently have computers like we had decades ago.

I encourage it! Even though I'm very young I hope to some day to be an astronaut! I think it's important to try and travel to other plants to see if we can sustain life there because Earth won't always be here. With all the problems we have: global warming, glaciers melting, war all over the world, & polution. In 2011 NASA is planning to send people back to the moon; in 2018 NASA will try to send people to Mars!

Definitely a valid concern! If there's something out there we need to discover or know about, we need to find out if we can.
When our countries begin to travel into deep, deep space, I think they need to use robots instead of humans, at least until it's safe.

At some point in time we're going to have to leave this planet, in the past this was seen as the point at which our sun started to fail in millions of years time. But the rate we're mucking up this planet I recon we're going to have to leave it a lot sooner!
