Yes! I believe strongly in environmental issues. I'm not really a tree-hugger, and I don't blow up Humvees on my weekends. I simply believe that global warming is one of the biggest dangers facing our country. Far more so than terrorism.
If I had the ear of US lawmakers, I would encourage them to follow California's rules, forcing carmakers to manufacture vehicles with lower emissions and higher fuel efficiency.
I would fine companies that pollute commiserate to the amount required to clean up the pollution plus a punative fine that would be calculated upon the amount of money that they saved by causing the pollution to begin with.
IE: Acme dumps acetote into the drains, which go into our rivers because they don't want to pay $1500/mo for proper disposal. They would be fined the amt of $$ to clean up the mess, plus the $1500/mo for however many months they've been destroying the environment.
It's just fair. A person can't get away with this sort of stuff, so why should our corporations?

All forms of judicial activism. That includes Supreme Court decisions like Roe v. Wade, Lawrence v. Texas, and Bush v. Gore. And it includes the decision by the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in Goodridge v. Dept of Health Services.
What can I do to change it? Nothing. I can't do anything. Practically speaking, I am so powerless that all I can do is whine, whine, and whine some more. I try talking (whining) about it, but I am just dismissed as a whiner.

Immigration. While I feel for the people who come here to get a better life, it is an insult when the very first thing they do is break the law. It's like walking into someones house and saying "what a beautiful home" then spitting into the homeowners face. There are millions of people who wish to come to America, but you have to get in line and follow the rules. Also, I find it personally insulting when Hispanics run around on Cinco de Mayo waving Mexican flags and yelling about how great Mexico is. If it's that great, please feel free to return to Mexico. I have been to Mexico many times and indeed it is a beautiful country. Some parts are extremely impoverished though. Please, if you are going to come to this country, at least have some respect. I have no respect for people who break laws to come to this country, and then put it down.

Like Holly, I am a supporter of Amnesty international. The state of human rights in most countries is deplorable. It is getting worse in the States as well. Most people in the States don't know about this or don't care. We think the world revolves around us. I would try to have some sort of very basic international laws. Not telling people how to run their country but making it a crime to deny people the right to travel, interfere in people's private affairs, force people to follow a certain faith or religion, practice torture, things like this.

Freedom. It is on trial in the world at large and here on Yahoo Answers. People's questions, answers, and whole avatars are being deleted by those that disagree with your freedom of expression. It is interesting that the word for this on Yahoo is deleted, for it conjures up memories of times not long gone by where people were deleted alright! If we lose that freedom in this country, we will have failed as a democracy and society. Before this great experiment in freedom in the United States, people lived in fear around the globe that some arbitrary power could come to them in the night and delete their work, their Church, their family, or themselves. This country became a beacon to the world, symbolized by the Statue of Liberty, that you can always come to the United States and be free of all that fear. Today freedom is in danger in this country, and here on Yahoo Answers. If we give up the agreement that everyone has the right to live as they chose, that beacon of light would go out in this country, and this would lead to very dark days both in this country and around the world.

I am anti-war, I have never seen any good come out of a war in my 60 years. Death, and destruction is all that happens and the world never changes. As long as we cannot set down and talk, country to country we will always be in danger of ending the world before its time.

I'm a member of Amnesty International and a supporter of RAINN. The first organization because I believe in their fight for human rights, and the second because it's personal to me.

Poverty, because of it, crime is increasing, Africa is a mess,
diseases are spreading & education is going only, to those
who can afford it.
I voted Democratic because I feel these are the people with
feelings who care about the less fortunate.
I hoping I won't be disappointed.
