smaller=x
larger=x+2 (consecutive even integers)

x+2=2x-10
12=x

smaller=12
larger=14

Let 2x be the first even integer
then 2x+2 = the second consecutive even integer

So 2x+2= 2(2x)-10
2x+2 = 4x -10
2x =12 = the first integer
2x+ 2= 14 = the second consecutive integer

(x + 2) = 2x - 10
x + 2 = 2x - 10
-x = -12
x = 12
