She's gained 4 lbs in 5 weeks? That's a pretty amazing weight gain! About 12.8 oz per week.

5 to 8.5 oz per week is about the average weight gain at this age.

What does your doc suggest?

Is your child breastfed or formula fed? How often/much is she eating?

Depends on her length. An 11 pound five week oldis in the 90-95th percentile for weight. If her length is also in a high percentile, there really isn't a problem. But, if her length is, say, in the 25th percentile, that's a big disparity. At such an early age, I think the doctor is just letting you know she'll be watching this...lots of babies start out high in percentiles, then even out, and vice versa (low to high). Some even go from high in weight one month, to low the next then high again just because of growth spurt timing. If your baby continues to be very heavy for length, then there might be a need to make sure everything is okay metabolically and/or that she isn't being overfed.

My daughters were always big and both were 11 pounds around 6-7 weeks. All babies are different. As long as she doesn't continue to stay way above the charts it should be okay although a doctor does know best.

when my baby was born he was 10lbs and is 15 mths and weighs 31.11 lbs but is also a little over 33 inches. and my dr says hes just healthy. how much did she weigh when she was born? How long is she? I'm not a dr, but I think worrying about the weight now is a little early

I don't think it is too big. My nephew was 9 pounds when he was born, so I'm sure he was around the same weight at 5 weeks.

the doctor probably knows whats best... try to listen to his opinion but with infants it is hard because they want to eat all the time and you cant really deprive them good luck.

heck no! Your doctor should be glad your baby is gaining weight, as long as your feeding her your breastmilk or formula she is fine!
