They are reptiles and, yes, they do have salmonella and can pass it to humans. The salmonella concern is so great that the federal government banned the sale of baby turtles as pets in the 1970s. Of course, if you do see baby turtles for sale (and you WILL see them at reptile shows), the vendors will probably tell you they are being sold for "scientific" or "research" purposes.

All turtles are reptiles- they have to breathe air and their eggs are always laid on land.

Salmonella can affect any thing or animal that is in intimate contact with feces or wastes. Aquatic turtles do tend to carry it, especially if the tank is not kept very clean.

On the other hand, cold hard-boiled eggs, coins, paper money, cold chicken, and so forth carry it all the time as well. Salmonella is a mild food poisoning that we often call 'stomach flu' or 'the 24 hour bug'- symptoms are usually a short run of diarrhea and/or vomiting for 24 hours or so. (Note- colds and flus rarely produce diarrhea and generally last over a week.)

turtles, aquatic or not are still reptiles. salmonella is possible with any reptiles, the trick is to clean cage regullarly and change water often. pet shops offer reptile friendly disinfectants. never use common household cleaners.

pores and skin laying off is regularly occurring, see you later because it isn't in extra. in the journey that your turtle is laying off too much pores and skin, it can propose one in all 2 issues: both the water is only too warmth (could be kept between seventy 8-80 2 tiers, i have self assurance), or your turtle is being fed too a lot protein. attempt feeding him extra vegetables alongside with collard vegetables, sweet potato and carrots. reliable good fortune!
