Declaration of Independence: "Hey, England, we're our own country now, so shove off."
Articles of Confederation: "We're all independent states, but we're working together under this agreement."
Constitution: "Okay, the Articles weren't working, let's sort out the problems and form a government that runs all the states. We'll call it the Federal government, and we're the United States of America."
Bill of Rights: "You know, under this Constitution, there's some things that the government could do that would put us back in the same situation that we left England to get out of or that started a lot of wars over in Europe. Let's make some Amendments to the Constitution - I think we'll need ten of them - that establish the rights of the citizens of our country. We'll call it the Bill of Rights."

First, declaration of independence in 1776, then the articles of confederation, then the constitution in 1787, and the bill of rights is the first 10 amendments to the constitution--it was the last.
