i'm tired of listening to the same bands and i want to get away from the stereotypical hip-hop, can anyone recommend any good bands to check out: my favorites are jet, the killers and keane, i really like alternative rock because it's not too out there , please don't recommend radiohead because i can't stand them, their music sounds weird, i also like coldplay.

I saw Keane live last month and a band called Captain were the support act. They were great - you can get a free download of some of their tracks from their myspace page

well i love the pixies - but they might be a stretch for you
so considering the bands you said you liked here's some you might dig:

jimmy eat world (kinda mellow)
los straightjackets (if you like surf)

mighty mighty bosstones (ska)
rancid (ska/punk)
red hot chillipeppers
the ramones (classic punk at its best)
reel big fish (kinda ska-ish but i still love em)
smashing pumpkins (the gish album rocks)
social distortion (sorta rockabillyish)
the toasters (one of my favorite ska bands!)

ok so i added some ska and punky kinda stuff but tried to keep it to the more poppy end of the spectrum. lol. but its never a bad thing to find a new favorite band right? i can give you lots more if you like these.
