It means there was probably some period in time when most of the elements on the periodic table were discovered. My guess would be in the 1700s sometime, but I don't really know for sure.
Update - I've linked to a list of when each element was discovered. From 1735, there are several discoveries made each decade. I'd just say 1735 to the present and print a copy of the list.

Well, if this is a homework question, I'd focus on the words peak period.The question simply means; during what time were most discoveries made.
It may be worth mentioning the fact that a period may have existed thousands of years ago that we are unaware of and simply re-discovered.Your call.

elements the base elements that everything else is made from, look up the "periodic table of the elements" on google, should point you in the right direction
