I did it by signing up to teach a night school class once a week at my local college. I told the students (adults) the first night that I was absolutely terrified (even though I knew the material down cold). They were very supportive, and by the third week I was doing fine.

Make sure you are an expert on the speech topic. Speak on a subject you know about. That will make you feel at ease when you talk about it, and more important, you will know how to answer questions asked. Also don't forget to make your speech audience centered, talk about something they want to listen to.

Practice with a friend. Have them critique you on your speaking skills. Have GOOD eye contact and feel comfortable. Once you are more at ease you won't be so tense and the conversations will go much smoother.

Practice....have your subject down pat, have notes on the podium, look at one person in the audience and speak to that person, and forget there is more than one setting there listening to you....it's hard, but doing it often, it becomes easier...I played music in San Francisco in front of about 100,00 people at a concert, but only looked at one.....good luck...

Think of your audience as your friends and them not having any closes on just for a moment you might want to make a joke about it to brake the ice
