It's two things:

1 - they're not "liberal" and

2 - they're not particularly tolerant, either.

And then, of course, there's the fact that they're not very bright - but, I guess, we're supposed to FEEL sorry for them for having that sort of personal problem, right?

Its more extremist right wing christians that are not tolerated. You see you can be a liberal and also an evangelical christian.

As a christian I don't need some right wing fruit loop fundamentalist trying to massage my conscience; I have the Holy Spirit for that.

Also if we look at the Gospels we will see love, sharing, brotherhood, community all those things espoused by liberals and opposed by the right wing fundamentalist evangelical christian. In fact much of what Jesus preached was not right wing capitalism but something that leant more towards liberal views or socialism.

One has wonder who the true christian is.

Those that embrace diversity and tolerance have long opposed those that disdain diversity and breathe intolerance.

Evangelical Christians believe there is no debate to the correctness of their beliefs. In a Western society, we have as a fundamental value that debate is a key to our democracy.

The Fundamenatlist Christian Right is the worst, most obnoxious and dangerous frankly, group of individuals on this planet. They are among the reasons we are in such bad shape at this point. Religion and politics are a bad combination and George Bush fused them created this huge mess across the globe.

i don't feel i can tolerate any group of people whose most fervent desire is for the destruction of the world because it signals the attainment of their personal and collective self aggrandizement.

Not true. They also don't tolerate observant Jews. It seems the only religion they like is radical Islam. Go figure.

Maybe its because evangelical Christians constantly demonize liberals. Naturally, that doesn't sit well with liberals.

Evangelical Christians have done their share of mudslinging. They are far from innocent. And I say this as a Christian myself.

Evangelical Christians are known for shoving their moral views at everyone else, while not following them themselves.
