I self-induced at 37 weeks by using my manual Advent breast pump, that and walking right after helped and my labor lasted about 7 hrs. By the time I got to the hospital's maternity Triage I was 4-5 cms and by the time I went to the labor room and got set-up, then checked I was 7-8, then they broke my water.

I highly recommend this way of inducing labor, I was in alot of pain by my third trimester and I am glad my Lamaze coach told me about it, good luck to you, help i was able to help you a little. :-)

Unfortunately, most the herbal stuff is largely ineffective. The baby actually puts out a hormone to initiate labor. Red Raspberry leaf contains and akaloid that will help relax the opposing muscle bands so that once contractions start there's (theoretically) less resistance but you have to take RRL for a month to really get good benefit from it. The cohoshes work better used together but, again, aren't that stronger (although herbs in general are more effective for people with type A, B or AB blood).

In any case, yes, with castor oil it can cause diarrhea. Yuck. So even if it did jumpstart labor, you could be having intestinal cramps on top of labor pains. Ugh!

Nipple stimulation (actually, below the nipple, not the tip) can help some, but, again, probably not really enough to start labor if you're baby isn't ready to be born.

Spicy foods and sex are myths.

Hugs! I don't know why you want to speed things along, but I'd recommend you rest, treat yourself and enjoy your last few weeks of knowing your baby is warm and well-fed and not crying....

DO NOT take castor oil. It will give you bad bad bad diarrea, even if it does work.

Raspberry leaf tea, black cohash tea or supplements, and evening primrose supplements are all supposed to help, although none of them helped me.

Also, eggplant parmigiana is supposed to induce labor, but again, it didn't work for me.

Sex is also supposed to help, in two ways if you are straight. First, orgasms can help your body get the contractions going. But also, there's a hormone in semen that often gets things going.

Good luck. My son came a week late, and I did EVERYTHING I could think of to induce labor. Hopefully you'll have better luck than I did!

There are lots of things you can do. You can have lots of sex, or just orgasms, they help in a different way then sperm. You can make tea with certain herbs. Or take certain herbs. A lot of women's health and/or pregnancy books have lists of herbs to help the onset of labor. The most common is black and blue cohosh. You can go to a health food store and ask around too. Some women try taking Castor Oil (It works, but EEW). There are a variety of Yoga postitions you could try as well. Above all you must be emotionally ready!! I learned that with my first who was 2 weeks late! You have to be READY! Ha Ha. OH and nipple stimulation works for some women too.

you really shouldn't induce yourself unless your closer to 40 weeks. That two weeks baking can make a huge difference. My husband was born 2 weeks early (at 38 weeks) and his lungs were not mature enough yet, babies are meant to come out when they are ready.

Sex is a good way to help kick start labor. And walk your little heart out. Best of luck.

having sex and getting messages. I went for a message today and she told me that if your husband can message your lower back , your ankles, and the insides of your legs it can induce labour- she said to use baby oil for messaging
good luck
