there is nothing wrong with being idle, in fact i like it. i think that the reason we all have to work so hard is that we all want the best things in life, and they cost money

We are not work obsessed, but due to this government who keep putting up our council taxes, taxes on earnings, and all the stealth taxes,as well as fuel charges, we have to work longer hours, so that we can afford to cover our mortgages and cost of living expenses. Most of us would like to work shorter hours and spend more leisure time with our families. If we worked shorter hours the employers would have to pay higher wages just so we could be at the level of wages that we are on now. This would lead to more unemployment and more on welfare and benefits.

I know what you mean. Who ever thought that the rich would get richer as well. I heard that in Europe they are not as work obsessed and you get more paid maternity.

I would say that our culture is not work obsessed. If you look at it our culture tells you to only work as hard as you have to, not as hard as you can.
