Its no fun. Its not natural (we were not created to age) It feels physically bad. We feel like the young person has been imprisoned on an old body. Someone replaced that beautiful or handsome face and body that once stood proudly in the mirror, with as aged person we never though we'd live to see. And the next thing is death. We die with so much left undone and undiscovered. That's why

hard to accept by who?? I relish the fact of getting older, because of the investment it shows I have made in life....and the memories I have....but it also means losing some physical strength as you get older, too...which IS hard to deal with...
the hardest thing about aging in the US, I think, is the culture of youth and beauty, which focuses only on the outside...and I know that not all in American culture are this way, but enough for it to be a problem!!

When I was young, the idea of getting old really freaked me out. Now that I'm middle-aged, I like being older and don't mind at all the prospect of being 50, 60, 70. I think God must throw a natural tranquilizer in there with the aging process, for things that bothered me when I was young don't bother me now at all.

Because as we age, we lose. We lose mobility 'cause of things like arthritis, declining visual acuty and a deteriorating sense of balance. We lose because we develop debilitating diseases like Parkinsons, diabetes, MS, MD, irritable bowel, cardiovascular disease. We lose because our lifelong friends and family begin to pass away while our children grow up and move away to live their own lives. We lose because we lose the ability to work to support ourselves, lose the privelege of driving, lose the ability to care for our most intimate needs like eating, bathing, toileting. All the above takes away our independence and makes of us an increasing burden on others. Anyone who says they wouldn't find that hard to accept is either a liar or a fool...
