songwriters? what makes a good song? how do i write one?

what are some ideas? i want ideas people can relate to. please give me a list of ideas i can write about.

i always write the music first.
for lyrics-
johnny cash universals:
murder
love
god

after that: money, animals, drugs(only in reference to how they change the protagonist's life), water/alcohol, confusion.

what makes a good song? a good question. id say a good song is one that every time you hear it, at the end you always just want to hear more, like any good story, so succinctness cannot be underestimated.
how do you write one? well...i dont know you, but id say that you have to start off with one thing, whether it's a little tune, or a single line that repeats over and over in your head, just start there and run with it. dont stop yourself, no matter what youre thinking. just keep going with it. and write ALL THE TIME. that is perhaps the best piece of advice ive ever recieved. songwriters do just that, they WRITE SONGS.

There's several books on songwriting. I bought a three book series written by Sheila Davis on Amazon. They are really full of info on song forms, writing better lyrics, rhyming schemes, knowing your audience, etc. I would suggest getting these and reading through them. It'll answer all of your questions.
