8 x 10 = 80 Possible combinations.

Consider the eight guys. If guy one was picked to go to the conference, there's ten choices he has because there are ten girls.
If guy two was picked to go to the conference, there's ten choices also because there's ten girls.
Like wise for all of the guys. So there are eighty possible combinations.

This is a probability and statistics problem... To find out the answer you have to look at what choices are available. Line up the 10 girls and 8 boys and start selecting pairs. The options available for your 1st selection will reveal the answer. Here's how:
The Advisor has a choice of 10 girls, and a choice of 8 boys to select from; therefore 10 X 8 = 80 Different pairs.

The answer is 80 pairs. All you have to do is multiply the 10 boys by the 8 girls. That will give you the total number of options pairing each boy with each girl. Unless this is a trick question, then as the question states only one pair can go.

I think that it would be 80.

well this is what I came up with u have 10 different girl and only 8 different boys . u multiply the 10 girls with the 8 boys . it is possible for each boy to go out with any one of the different girls . so that would be 10 multiply 8 = 80 . and thats the answer. because every boy will have 10 different possible choices.
I hope I helped u well. good luck.
