If you want to keep it, the information is available on net about all. Good one is www.fishlore.com

If you do not want it, give it to a friend for adoption or leave it any lake or well.

For keeping here are some tips

1. Water:- do not use tap water directly, its clorinated. Stale water (kept open for 4 days) is ok. Or u can use de-clorinator. Never change total water in bowl. You can replace maximum 20% of it. Removing old water can be done by syphoning. Same can remove stool.
2. Food :- Thumb rule is give food that is consumed in 5 minutes. Its said that pet fishes are killed more by overfeeding than starvation. You can get worms, daphnias in pet shops. Dry food can just keep it alive. Growth results are not so great by dry food.
3. Cleaning:- Put a small water tube in bowl. Suck the water from other end. Water will get drained from bowl. All dirt from bowl can be sucked thru.
4. Identification: See pics on websites. Or describe in more detail if you are lazy to surf web.

Don't feed the fish any more than it will eat in a few minutes. Change the water at least every month, but only change 30% of it each time. Buy water conditioner (a few dollars) to make the tap water safe. It sounds like you have a goldfish.

If the fish is in a fish bowl instead of a fish tank, then you should get an air pump ($10-20) to keep the water oxygenated, as the surface to volume ratio is not likely sufficient to guarantee enough oxygen exchange.

There are so many more tips, depending on how advanced you want to get. I suggest that you visit your local pet store and ask the clerk what you need for your specific fish and tank.

well if you have a small tank, theres not that much you can do to get rid of the stool. Otherwise use a gravel cleaner. You are supposed to leave the light on the whole day but since i only have one fish (orange and yellow mickey mouse platy) i only turn it on when im feeding it. it stimulates feeding too.

i also feed my fish freeze dried bloodworms as a treat once a day.

as for the amount of food heres a guideline:
-feed what they tell you to at first
-if the fish doesnt eat it ALL before it goes to the bottom (a few min), then you're feeding too much. take away a piece.
-if you notice the fish got skinnier, then you're feeding too little

also you'll need to change about 1/4 of the water once every week- 2 weeks

the variety of fish will outline what you want for it. A sparkling roomy tank for the fish is purely the starting up. For the fish to thrive you should purchase a bubbler of pump that curculates the tank cleansing the water of debris and waste. The pump also resources oxygen into the water. you don't want a tank pump in case you sparkling the tank once an afternoon daily. The fish's style will tell which form of nutrition. If the fish is sparkling water then goldfish flakes can do the trick. Slat water fish require a diverse nutrition for a nutrition routine and a tank heater.

Sounds like a Siamese fish. if you don't like the poop siphon it out with a piece of air line tubing then fill the jar back up with room temp spring water. Also do not put the fish in direct light from a window, instead put it somewhere on a table or desk where there is artificial lighting.

Unfortunately you have a goldfish in a bowl. If you can, get the fish a bigger tank with a filter. If you can't afford a 10 gallon or bigger, at least get a filter for the bowl or your fish will be miserable. You need to do frequent water changes because ammonia will build up very fast in his bowl. Make sure you condition the water with dechlorinator or he will die. Fish poop and there's nothing you can do about it except keep his water clean with the water changes. That's nature, everything poops. Good luck with him.

you have to buy a tank with a filter system..the fish will die in the jar.
you muts feed your fish 2 times a day..not much just a little bit of flakes.
do not put your fish in direct sunlight...when you buy a tank you should also get a lighting system...you can get a good 5 gallon tank with the filter and light for about $50.
thats the cheapest I know about at walmart.
fish need alot of care.
