Conventional wisdom says that "room temperature" is 72 degrees. Energy efficient experts suggest that you should cool/heat to within +/- 4 degrees of room temperature depending on the season.
For heating, I keep a range of 70 degrees when I'm home and I use natural gas. Of course, lowering the thermostat to 68 degrees will have a dramatic drop on my utility bill.

It's best when it's cool enough for a blanket (or activities that keep me warm) whether it's summer or winter. We have a wood stove and electric if we need it. We prefer the wood stove. It warms us inside and out. :-)
