Maverick. It doesnt mean horse...dont know where anybody got that from...it means Independant or Rebellious, originating from a character in a book who was named maverick and didnt brand his cattle, so he was being rebellious.

It's ok. I've heard of it before, probably from Top Gun. It's most certainly not a name I would pick though.

It's a name that means independent... and implicitly implies strength.

I liked it in Top Gun & I loved it in the movie with Mel Gibson. I even liked it in the re-runs of the old television series. I also like the definition of the word & of course, anything that ultimately points toward anything equine just thrills me because I'm horse crazy.

Maverick..I like it. You're too young, but there was a western TV show that was the basis for the movie with Mel Gibson.

Was fine for a TV show but why stick your kid with It. A maverick is a horse do you plan to have a fat kid that looks like a horse? Give the kid a decent name that it can be proud of.

I think it's fine, but you are going to have to deal with the "like Tom Cruise in Top Gun?" question a lot, so be prepared!

I don't really like it---people are always going to think "oh, there's the kid with the parents who insisted on thinking they were clever at the expense of giving their child a normal name"

where I live, it's kind of a popular name
But then people also name their kids after cities (Dallas, Houston, Austin, etc)
A kid down the street is named Maverick, we just call him Ricky

Don't do it. It will seem weird and dated. Other kids will pick on him. He will hate you for giving it to him. If you want a butch name try something like Slade, Dylan, or Taggert.
