I am not on welfare freakzilla. I'm actaully a middle-class resident who can see farther than my own house! I have a heart. And about people being able to get better jobs. Some people aren't smart enough to do that. If people don't do these min wage jobs, WHO WILL? Who's gonna man the convenient store 24 hrs a day so that you can pump some gas? Who is gonna watch your kids?

I'm not saying we should increase min wage. It will drive prices higher. I'm trying to pump this info into rich snobs heads. Not everyone is making 100,000 a year. Some people need help.

Haha no they don't, and even if you showed them proof they wouldnt believe it. They would just blame the person and say it's their fault for being born poor, not working hard enough, whatever.

Edit- Some of the answers on here are unbelievable. "Educate yourself" "We are as strong as men and can get a great job if need be" Educate yourself? Have any of these people been to the hood lately? Or to a rural school? Kids from there don't get coaching to take the SATs, their test scores arent as high as the kids of these parents on here...if they go to a college where SATs arent accepted then they are bringing down the quality of education...plus if you take out a loan you have to pay it back for the rest of your life at mafia interest rates...hard to deal with when the price of gas is what it is and everything going up but our salaries...People on here dont' seem to realize that the cost of welfare is MINIMAL compared to what we are paying for our MILITARY. I wish people would WAKE UP. If we cut that budget in half we would have money for schools to make them better, smaller classrooms, better teachers...safer playgrounds and neighborhoods...maybe we could take care of the ignorance and we wont have some baby's mamas with three kids by the time they are 21...let some of the SNOBS walk in their shoes for awhile, with little opportunity to get out of the cycle they are in...no, they would just rather complain and *****about people who dont' know any better anyway. JERKS!!!

No they don't know nor do they care. As a matter of fact most people have minimum wage or just a little higher. My guess is around 70-85 percent of Americans make 10k-25k per year. I don't fall in this category barely, but it took me 10 years to make what I am making now and I am not paid by half of what the supposed national average is in my area for the experience, training and time I have put into my job.
I think a good way of changing this is to make all government, political jobs minimum wage. i.e. Jobs like President of US, Supreme Court Judge, Representative, Senator and all jobs related to them.
If they do then the Minimum Wage would increase therefore the need for Welfare would drop considerably.

The minimum wage is the worst thing that can happen to poor people. The current minimum wage proposal raises the cost of labor by 40%. Businesses can respond by 1. laying-off workers, 2. hiring fewer workers or 3. raising prices. All of these options make life more expensive for the poor. By raising prices (inflation) the Federal Reserve will respond by raising interest rates, which makes housing more unaffordable for the poor. Furthermore, an increase in the minimum wage makes life more expensive for retirees and senior citizens on a fixed income.

While you're congratulating yourself about having a heart (as if those who disagree with you do not) you might want to consider what the long term effect is of raising the minimum wage. Do you know? Any idea?

Who are these snob heads? Who are these people who need help? And how do you suggest we help them? Please don't answer with "The government."

Do you realize that the cost of EVERYTHING will go up thereby nullifying the increase (if min wage is increased)? How do I know this? Because it happens every time min wage increases. Who do you think pays for it? The customer does. Do you think an increase in min wage is going to be eaten by business owners? If so, I have a bridge to sell you.

I think what a lot of people are saying is the number of people who have kid after kid & drain the welfare system because they don't want to work. I know there are single mom's out there & families who need help once in a while & I don't see anything wrong with that. What I DO have a problem with is people who screw around & pop out kids like pez because they are too stupid to use birth control & the rest of US end up paying for "THEIR" kids. I should NOT have to pay for someone to stupid to keep their legs together & too irresponsible to use birth control.....
I'm sick of hearing I GOT PREGNANT & MY BOYFRIEND LEFT ME.... BOO HOO!!!! Well, DUH!!!!!
Or I'm pregnant with my third child & all of my kids have different dads. WHY is their stupidity MY problem????

The problem is NOT people who need help, the problem is people who think that welfare is their job. They live off of the tax payers & do NOT want & do NOT try to lift themselves above welfare & they do NOT teach their kids to be any better than welfare people also. Being lazy or uneducated is NOT an excuse for MY tax dollars to pay for them to whine about NOT having the same opportunities as everyone else. Being poor is NOT an excuse to stay that way.....

False. The nature of capitalism allowed me to move out of the Brooklyn ghetto and move to a very nice place in Florida. Minimum wage increases actually nullify themselves. Prices go up to cover the increase so all the money that the "employee" has gained gets spent just as quickly.

--Then we should help them by educating them, not pacifying them and making them dependant on government.

welfare is a lot more then "welfare", welfare also includes free food, free education, and free healthcare

and FOR GOD SAKES, UR NOT SUPPOSED TO RAISE A FAMILY ON MINIMUM WAGE! the minimum wage is supposed to be for teens who want side money, or retirees who want little bit of extra cash

it P.M.O. when i hear a 21 year old girl with 3 kids and a deadbeat dad who complains because she cannot raise the family workin at macdonalds

the welfare system needs reformed

Welfare is purely for people who have lost a job to get by or to help with health insurance. People with low paying jobs need to get educated to find a better paying job. Staying with a min wage job plus welfare only makes things worse in the long run, and keeps the person in poverty. What I mean by getting educated is not only going to school, its getting experience in a field they are interested in. People who want to live in poverse situations should only blame themselves for not wanting a better life for themselves and their families.

I hate the fact that the gap between the upper and lower class is getting bigger. Who wants to work for minimum wage? It was hard enough for me to find a decent job just out of college.
