First off all it all depends on what make and model your router is, have a look at the manual supplied or go to the manufacturers website and follow the instructions from there.
Basically you need to put some type of encryption on there with a key, the best encryption to use is WPA / WPA2.
The link below provides a general overview of what you need to do.

Change the factory login and password to something you can remember.
Change the name of your network name (SSID) from the default.
Don't broadcast your network. Your router will send out a signal when it is online 'advertising' to wireless cards that it is available. When you turn off this feature, it will be hard for wireless computers to find your network.
Use WPA or WEP encryption. If you use WEP, make sure it's 128 bit.
Enable MAC filtering. This will allow only the MAC addresses you specify to connect to your router.

You have to setup a secure wireless network. And change the admin login on the router to something else and change the password. The most likely reason that they can do it is because they are accessing your router. The default admin name is "admin" and the default password is "admin". so change that and set up a SECURE wirless network. Your router should have came with a cd that will allow you to set it up.

In addition to addind WEP or WPA encryption you should also set your SSID to not be broadcast. How you do that will depend on the make and model of your Wireless router.

when you get a wireless router change the default password with a new one. eveyone knows the default one.
keep your router as close to the center of your house as you can so the signal has more trouble spilling over into the street where some lamer can use it.

i would suggest you put a lock on it. YOu can find the instructions in your manual. We are in stealth mode so no one is able to gain access.
