It appears to have been started in New Zealand in 1991 in order to see children celebrated, nurtured and treasured by all. And it seems to have taken a hold on the rest of the world too.

in my country on June 1st, i don't know the history since i know it was a day off school with drawing competition, and lots of prizes consisted in sweets.
