Also called an Ounce. A snow leopard's latin name is Panthera Uncia or Uncia Uncia. ***Random Fact*** Did you know that they are not actually leopards, being related more to tigers. They are also endangered.

TAT has the answer your looking for and there are two names for the Snow Leopard and the second name is "Ounce" . They live in steep mountain areas feeding on mt. goat and what ever comes along but been known to kill domestic Livestock three times their size. Not much difference between the snow leopard except their tails are longer and wider than other leopards and a bit smaller but still considered in the large cat family. They are NOT white to blend in with the snow, they're grey and dark spots with striped tails. Good Job "TAT" on your answer and to some of the other people that have answered this question, Thanks in advance for letting me know that such an animal question in the reptile forum is a hanging offense and grounds for a verbal beating! Another common name for the snow leopard is the ounce. Its scientific name is Uncia uncia (or Panthera uncia according to some taxonomists). Alluring - the cougar is a totally different species, Puma concolor, which doesn't even live on the same continent.

Why have you put a Snow Leopard question in the reptile section. It's a white leopard that lives in the antarctic, snowy areas, so that they are camoflaged in the snow.
