Because Saturday was Veteran's Day, and had the 11th fallen on a school day you would have that day off, even if it fell in the middle of the week. So an extra holiday day is taken when it falls on the weekend.
My kids had last Friday off instead.

I was feeling depressed, but did not understand why. I knew that if I went to school that I would not do anything constructive and would also probably harm my relationship with my teachers and fellow students and might even cause a bigger problem for myself.
After some thought, I decided that the best thing to do was to take the day off and go out for a long walk, which I did. At first I just walked and walked, without speaking, nor looking at anybody and also not dwelling on any particular thoughts.
After about an hour I began to feel better and started to smile at and greet anyone who I passed. Eventually I had conversations with some elderly people that I knew, who were out shopping or walking their pets. I began to feel much better, so I decided to turn around and take the long walk home, still occasionally speaking to people as I progressed. When I arrived home, I was physically tired, but mentally I was on a completely different plane. I spent the rest of the day relaxing and doing some fairly simple cooking, which I also find therapuetic.
Finally, when my mother arrived home, she gave a sympathetic ear to all I told her.
