Dreams that you have over and again are often premonitions, a view into the future. You could try changing the dream to an outcome you want. Try looking up lucid dreams and lucid dream programming. Lucid Dreaming is knowing that you are dreaming while you are doing it. When you know that you are dreaming, you can also alter the dream course. And with practice you can also develop full control over your dream, you will be able to create and change the environment and change your own appearance. It will be you that are in control of the dream scenario. You can do whatever you want to do. Live out your wildest fantasy, or just sit down and chit chat with someone. You should also be open for the possibility to share dreams and travel in time and space when you develop adequate control over your dreams. The word Lucid means that you have a clear and full consciousness. And believe me when I say that Lucid Dreaming can be much more fun than waking reality.

Sounds like fear of loss. One method I used to use (borrowed from my former spouse's shrink) was to play the dream out when awake. This may help, if you can experience and identify the feelings behind the dream. Another method would be to contact your friend and see if you could reassure yourself that you weren't in immediate danger of losing him or her. Of course since dreams don't follow daytime logic, the friend may really be a symbol for someone else

I try to continue the dream to work out the lesson or what emotions I am trying to understand. Dreams are the mind's way of working through issues, so try to go with it. Try to stay asleep or go back to sleep to finish.

I have heard that talking about a re-occuring dream will help it to stop. Not so sure though!

Face the dark figure in your dream. Grab it and smack it or goose it, or throw your drink at it, whatever you need to do to confront it. Do this and it will stop happening.

It will probably stop happening, but if you are really concerned you should probably talk to your doctor.
